About me
I am a photographer living in the South West Devon area. My fascination with photography is to try and catch a moment in time. So street and people photography are my favourite subjects. Landscapes I find difficult, as the subject does not come naturally to me. I am a steam train enthusiast, hence the railway photos. They are to me enigmatic moments too, captured with nostalgia.
Photography as a serious interest started in 2009, when I enrolled on a photography course at my local Arts College. Previously I had needed a less expensive camera when coarse fishing. A Soviet era Zenit EM started it all. I moved on to a Praktica SLR and then a Pentax Spotmatic. Eventually fishing had to be sidelined as photography became mainstream.
I mainly use film and manual film cameras. I have a measured approach so the analogue process suits me. It is capable of superb reproduction quality when done well. I tried digital and do use it sometimes, but I’m 90% film. As a kid I had owned a Kodak Box Brownie (see left) and I was occasionally allowed to use my dad’s Exakta 35mm SLR. Some photos from this time, and some taken by my dad are in the galleries.

Technical Stuff
Pentax Spotmatic 35mm SLR, with wide angle to telephoto lenses.
Yashica Mat TLR medium format camera. Based on a Rolleiflex Automat.
Voigtlander Bessa R2 & FED2 35mm rangefinder cameras
Olympus digital compact camera.
Black and White films mostly processed and printed by myself in a darkroom. Colour is done by a local lab. I am partially colour blind, so the traditional colour process in totally beyond me. Authenticity is important to me. What you see was in the camera viewfinder, only slight cropping and dodging and burning just like in the darkroom.
Thanks for looking.
